Tom is the current Welsh Seniors Champion and one of the UK’s top surf writers. His 2006 book, Riding the Magic Carpet, remains a favourite among travellers, while his latest release, Code Black, tells a pair of tales from Porthcawl surfers during the epic winter of 2013-14.
Tom is one of the most well-travelled surfers you will meet, and says the best wave he’s ever surfed is either Jeffrey’s Bay, Thurso or the Superbank.
He also loves the waves and lineups of Wales, though, and is often keen (sometimes even too much?) to tell tales of local spots, swells and heroes, if you just ask at the right time (which is basically any time of day at all).
He's also an avid Arsenal fan, but don't hold that against him!
Surfer | Skate Dad
The essence of an all-rounder, Steve is as good a snowboarder and skater as he is a surfer. Although a standout in bowls and powder, his day-to-day passion is for waves.
As a junior Steve, started on a bodyboard, becoming a double Welsh champ at the age 17. He began standing a year later, and is now a regular fixture on the British Longboard Tour.
Steve has spent a lot of time honing his accomplished nose-riding style in foreign waves, with several California trips under his belt, as well as Indonesia, Tahiti, Central America and elsewhere in Europe. A proper America-phile, Steve is also addicted to the West’s mountain treasures, and as a snowboarder he cites Colorado as the best trip he’s ever taken. Steve is the Vice Chairman of the Welsh Coast Surf Club.
Surfer | Teacher
Having travelled to and surfed in six of the planet’s seven continents (and she still hasn’t ruled out Antarctica) Breige Lawrence’s act encompasses style, flow and power.
A former Ladies runner-up at the Welsh, Breige is also the nation’s current number two longboarder.
During her time as a surf instructor at Costa Rica’s Witch’s Rock Surf Camp, Breige discovered a passion for different surfboards, both retro and contemporary, and is still keen to ride as wide a variety of equipment as possible. For her, there is little need to make distinctions between craft or styles - ‘It’s all just surfing and having fun’.
Surfer | Graphic Artist
Currently in the last year of his Graphic Communication course at the University of South Wales. He loves all aspects of design - a keen photographer, videographer and music maker.
Ez has been surfing from the age of 15 - during this time he's been fortunate enough to travel extensively across the globe. Some of his favourite spots are
Trestles, the peak at Bundoran, Bingin, Hossegor & Anchor Point.
Catch him competing at National and local competitions - he's bagged some decent results in nine years of surfing.
Being creative is a big passion, whether it be in or out of the water.
Surfer | Surf Instructor
Max Alesbury has only been surfing 6 years but is already one of the local rippers around the South Wales coast. When he's not in the water, catch him 'working' with Hugh at the Porthcawl Surf School.
His first experience on a surf board was at the age of three when his father pushed him into a 1ft wave - he was rolled in the washing machine and got the crap scared out of him. It took him a few years to grow some balls and finally get back on a board!
His favourite surf trip is travelling down through France, surfing the coast heading South - Finding new spots to have cook-outs and surf all day whilst living out of his van.
His dream job would be to own a bar or restaurant on the sea front overlooking pumping surf.
His other interests are mountain biking, taking pictures and converting vans into campers.
